Havelock Island Guide: Beaches, Snorkelling and Scuba
By the Idea Holiday team · 4 min read
Short answer
Havelock, or Swaraj Dweep, is the most popular Andaman island for beaches and diving. Stay at least two nights, and book the ferry from Port Blair early, since seats sell out from December to May.
Radhanagar Beach
Radhanagar is one of India's best-known beaches, with white sand and clear water. Go in the late afternoon for the sunset, and check the current swimming conditions with your resort, since they change with the tides and season.
Elephant Beach and snorkelling
Elephant Beach is reached by boat or a forest path, and it is popular for snorkelling and glass-bottom boat rides. Go early to avoid the crowds, and take a sturdy pair of shoes for the path.
Scuba try-dives
Havelock has several dive centres offering try-dives for beginners. Choose a centre with certified instructors and a clear safety briefing, and avoid flying within 24 hours of a dive.
Where to stay and how to get there
Stay near Radhanagar or Elephant Beach for easy access to the water. Island transfers run by ferry from Port Blair, so plan your Havelock days around the ferry times, and keep a buffer day for weather changes.
