Bangkok Itinerary: 3 Days of Temples, Markets and River Views

By the Idea Holiday team · 4 min read

Short answer

Three days is enough to see Bangkok's temples, markets and river at a relaxed pace. Plan the temples in the morning to avoid the heat, and keep the evenings for markets and rooftop bars. Thailand entry rules change, so we confirm the current requirements before you fly.

Day 1: Grand Palace and Wat Pho

Visit the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, home of the reclining Buddha, in the morning. Dress modestly, since both are active temples. Have lunch nearby and rest in the afternoon.

Day 2: river and Wat Arun

Take a boat along the Chao Phraya river and visit Wat Arun, the temple by the river. Finish with a dinner cruise or a rooftop bar overlooking the river.

Day 3: Chatuchak and Ayutthaya

Visit the Chatuchak weekend market in the morning, if your dates fall on a weekend. Alternatively, take a day trip to the ruins of Ayutthaya, the old capital, by road or train.

Getting around

Use the BTS Skytrain and the MRT metro for most trips. Choose registered taxis or ride apps, and agree the fare before a tuk-tuk ride.
