Nepal Trip Guide: Kathmandu, Pokhara and the Himalayan Views
By the Idea Holiday team · 5 min read
Short answer
Nepal is one of the easiest international trips from India, with a short journey and a wide mix of culture and mountains. A five- to six-night plan covers Kathmandu's temples and Pokhara's lakes and views. October to November and March to May have the clearest mountain views.
Kathmandu's temples
Visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square, all part of the UNESCO-listed Kathmandu Valley. Go early in the morning for quieter temples and softer light, and dress modestly at religious sites.
Pokhara's lakes and views
Pokhara sits beside Phewa Lake. Take a boat ride in the morning, and go up to Sarangkot before sunrise for views of the Annapurna range on clear days.
Getting between the cities
Kathmandu and Pokhara are connected by a short flight, and by a long road journey. The flight saves most of a day, so book it early in the season.
Travel documents and money
Entry rules differ by passport, so we confirm the documents you need before booking. Carry some Nepali rupees for small purchases and local transport, since cards are not accepted everywhere.
